Photography invoicing tips

  • Invoice the deposit separately

Many photographers take a booking deposit. Record it under amount paid on the final invoice so the balance is clear.

  • Spell out what is delivered

Number of edited images, delivery format and timeline. It prevents “I thought we’d get all the photos” conversations.

  • Mention usage rights

If the client is a business, say how they may use the images (for example, web and social media). Put it in the terms field.

  • Charge for extras

Extra hours, rush editing or additional locations belong on their own lines, so the client sees why the total changed.
