Contractor invoicing tips

  • Separate labor and materials

Listing them separately makes the invoice easier to approve and shows the client exactly what they paid for.

  • Reference the job

Put the job address or estimate number in the reference field so the client can match the invoice to the work.

  • State payment terms

Due date, accepted payment methods and any deposit already paid. Clear terms are the simplest way to get paid on time.

  • Check local tax rules

Whether labor or materials are taxable varies by state and country. Set the tax rate that applies to you; the template does not decide it for you.
